Five talented artists have been selected for the 13th North Devon Open Art Show exhibition this year and the Museum is delighted to be able to showcase their inspirational work in our Exhibitions Gallery.

Penny Armitage ~ quilted textiles

Penny's love of quilting started in Kuwait where she learnt traditional patchwork techniques and patterns at a Quilt group she found whilst living there ~ she has been hooked ever since!  Now back in her native county of Devon she develops workshops across the South West and is a popular speaker to W.I. and quilt groups.  Over the past two years she has finally achieved an ambition of winning awards at the 'Festival of Quilts' at the NEC in Birmingham.

Karen McEndoo ~ abstract oil paintings

Although originally trained as an illustrator Karen's work has gradually evolved towards abstraction, giving her more freedom to explore various themes and ideas. Her abstract oil paintings currently on display have been inspired by Cornwall.

Paula Miller ~ ceramics

Paula's grand and elaborately decorated and embellished pots celebrate the special heritage and events of Barnstaple, from commemorating the areas links to the 'New World',  the historic buildings and architecture of the town, to the celebration of the annual Fair each September.

Luna North ~ Linocuts

Artist and Printmaker Luna's linocuts feature the wildlife near her home in Molland at the foot of Exmoor, a landscape that she loves. Her work expresses the beauty, complexity and wildness of the moor which she shows through the use of bold pattern and overlaid colours.

Julian Witts ~ Woodcuts

This printmaker's bold, graphic monochrome images are inspired by his love of nature.  Julian's subjects come alive within their own context of two dimensions, paper and ink, whilst using almost exclusively a simple Stanley knife on wood!

A must see exhibition that runs until the 28th February 2015.

Works are also available for purchase.
