It's hard to believe that Taz Pollard's ceramics have such traditional beginnings. They appear on first sight to be ultra-modern, a mix of contemporary materials and vibrant colours. Bot on further investigation the shapes and techniques she uses are steeped in history and loaded with narrative.
Each piece is rooted in post medieval utilitarian pottery forms such as baluster jugs, pancheons, cider jars and costrels with Taz giving them a 21st century twist with a bright glaze, a plastic handle or a plastic ceramic hybrid.
These hybrids are a ceramic collage of elements and influences from different times, events and places. They invite the viewer to imagine the several processes at work - past and present - so taking part in a dynamic recreation of what has gone before.
From traditional beginnings her work re-defines the value we place on everyday objects, making them extraordinary.
40,000 Sherds runs until the 30th August - Admission Free.
