General History research centre : Research and Archives

archive_01Our archives can provide information for students of all ages undertaking investigations into a wide range of subjects.  If research work is carried out by our volunteers for individuals, commercial organisations or public bodies, we may make a charge to help sustain the museum finances.  Any charge will be clearly stated when any requests for research are made and the cost stated.  Normally we ask for a donation to the Trust funds from individuals undertaking their own research as out volunteers have  to access the appropriate files.

As part of our outreach program our volunteers also give talks on a wide range of historical subjects to local organisations or schools.

This is housed in the coach House for Odun house. Jerome Clapp Jerome, the father of the famous Jerome K Jerome of ‘Three Men in a Boat' fame had a printing press in this coach house.  He was the minister of the local Congregational Church, which was in Meeting Street, Appledore

The room can be changed to the depict the period  required by school parties.  The volunteer teachers, who act as costumed interpreters, can re-create the school experience of early 1940s wartime or Victorian times as requested.  This facility is only provided by previous appointment and we would encourage schools using it to do project work on the chose period before their visit.  The schoolroom has toilets and disabled facilities on ground level
