Piper Bill Millin was born on the 14th July,1922 and would become famous as the last piper to ever play under battle conditions. He piped the troops ashore on Sword Beach,Normandy, during the D-Day landings of the 6th June ,1944, under relentless machine gun and mortar fire. His iconic D-Day pipes and kilt are proudly on display at Dawlish museum.
