Dunkeswell Airfield Heritage Centre

This Heritage Centre was opened on the 25th September 2016 and houses a substantial photographic collection of over 400 photographs that depict day to day life on the base during World War 2, as well as many WW2 artefacts. The display tell the story from the construction, the USAAF and USN forces stationed there and RAF Coastal Command, to the eventual break-up of aircraft and its closure as a military base.

This base played a major role in the defense of the country's supply lines - The Battle of the Atlantic - and the major deterrent it provided in its search and destroy missions. RAF Coastal Command, USAAF and the US Navy
