LOOK, SHOW AND TELL

There will be a new attraction at Totnes Fashion and Textiles Museum during August. Every Tuesday morning in the month, between 11.00 and 1.00, a box of clothes from the museum’s handling collection will be open for visitors to enjoy in the ground floor shop area.

Julia Fox, the hon. Curator, and other members of the museum team will be on hand to talk about the clothes and fashions from different eras.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring in items from their own wardrobes or attic discoveries to show and tell of their significance to their family histories. The team will be able to help with dating them if required.

Julia says, “This is a development of our ‘Costume Conversations’ project where people were invited to talk on tape about their favourite garments in the collection, or about clothes they have donated to the museum. We are always looking to extend our fashion archive, through these taped memories and photographs, which complement the garments themselves.”

So, Tuesday mornings in August, why not drop in to the museum after browsing in the Elizabethan market? It’s just across the road in Bogan House. You’ll be able to see this year’s fashion exhibition, ‘Let’s Party’, at the same time.
