To mark this year's International Women’s Day we look at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery’s own personal heroine Gertrude Benham.
Nowadays it’s easy to forget how remarkable her travels around the globe in the early 1900s were. Not only did she bring a wealth of ethnographic objects back to the UK, but she was also a worldclass mountaineer and arguably the first woman to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro in 1909.
Find out more about her adventures and how she became the most widely travelled person of the 20th century.
This is a 'Museum On Tour' event for the Plymouth History Centre.
£2 per person. Advance booking advised via www.motgertrudebenham.eventbrite.co.uk
