North Devon in Photographs

Selected entries from our popular annual Heritage Photographic Competition which aims to encourage photography of northern Devon and Exmoor life and scenery by both budding and professional photographers of all ages, the same categories were open to adults and for children under the age of 16. 

 - In conjunction with North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Exmoor Moorland Landscape Partnership and Westside Warehouse Books the publishers of the new Tarka Trail Guide Book.

The Museum's six categories were:

• Towns & Villages
• The Coast & The Sea
• Characters
• Landscape
• Wildlife
• Anything Goes!

Long standing reporter for the North Devon Gazette, Tony Gussin, had the difficult task of judging the Adult section of the competition, whilst North Devon Journal and Freelance photographer Mike Southon and Carl Kinkenborg, from Westside Warehouse Books, selected the Under 16s winners.

 'Wildlife and Habitats' was the theme for The North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty category and the judges were Dave Edgcombe, AONB Project Officer, and Ross Hoddinott, one of the UK's leading Natural History and Landscape photographers.

'Moorland, Bogs and Coastal Heath' is the theme for The Exmoor Moorland Landscape Partnership category sponsored by the Heart of Exmoor Scheme, with Jason Ball the EMLP Scheme Manager selecting the winners.

For 2015 we welcomed Westside Warehouse Books who are the publishers of the new Tarka Trail Guide Book. 'Life on the Tarka Trail' is their theme and the judges, co-author Carl Klinkenborg and photographer Mike Southon, looked for entries which really captured the wildlife, enjoyment and unique experience of the Tarka Trail.

All photographs were taken within the past two years and cover Lundy Island, Exmoor National Park, and the whole of northern Devon.

The exhibition of selected entries 'North Devon in Photographs' runs from 7th November 2015 to 9th January 2016. Admission FREE.
