Saltertonian thoughts from Los Angeles

The article about former Budleigh Salterton Chamber of Commerce Chairman and Friend of Fairlynch Alan Tilbury posted recently at http://www.devonmuseums.net/Alan-Tilbury-looks-back/Latest-News/Fairlynch-Museum/Museum-News/ has clearly stirred some memories, and not just in the local area.
Jan Ashenfelter who lives in Los Angeles emailed to say that just that day she'd been thinking about Perriam's, where Alan got his first job. "I had some crisps which reminded me of the old Smith's with the little blue salt packets we used to get from Perriam's in the early 50s," she wrote. "Yes, I remember the overhead baskets too! And I remember Tibury's greengrocer later."
Jan remembers Budleigh with affection. "I get back quite often and think fondly of those days - I think there were three fishmongers!" she says.
She's also been to Brewster, the Massachusetts town on Cape Cod which has a link with Budleigh Salterton, mentioned frequently on the internet but not widely known in either town.
"Perhaps there will be more people coming forward with their memories," wonders Alan Tilbury.
