Added: 13 November 2017
Torquay Museum is for the first time going to take part in the national 'Explore Your Archive' week to promote its nationally important collections. As part of the campaign the Museum is going to put on display rarely seen documents from the Hester Forbes-Julian Collection which includes letters written by scientists, explorers and writers such as Jane Austen, John Keats and the Brönte’s. The Museum is currently digitising 6,000 images of Dartmoor taken by Richard H. Worth in 1920s and 1930s and the original negatives, lantern slides, prints and exposure diaries from the Worth Collection will form another part of the display. Visitors can also explore our archive focused exhibition "The Lost City of Z" which interprets over 500 letters, historical documents, newspaper cuttings and hundreds of photographs. A unique opportunity to explore the Museum’s stores will be given to the visitors on 21st November at 11 am and 2 pm when they can join the Collections Manager on a 40 minutes long behind the scenes tour. See the events section for details.
