As a part of its Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Policing Past Community Present’ project, Devon and Cornwall Police are seeking to appoint a shadow board to work with the force and the Friends of Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Heritage and Learning Resource to start up and run a new charity, The South West Police Heritage Trust, which will own, operate, develop and maintain the force’s historic collection.

Members of the shadow board will work with the force’s steering group to finalise the shape and direction of the new charity. It is anticipated that members of the shadow board would become the founding trustees of the new charity.

The roles are both strategic and hands-on. As a new charity this is an exciting opportunity to work with others to help shape the future structure, governance, and ways of working of a new heritage organisation. The force is looking for candidates with a range of skills and experience, but would be particularly keen to hear from individuals who possess experience in the following areas:

  • Management or business
  • Heritage, tourism or arts management
  • Finance – accountancy, tax, investments
  • Law – charity or employment
  • Human resources and employment; volunteer recruitment; training
  • Communications, ICT, marketing and public relations
  • Education or academia
  • Involvement in community-led initiatives (paid or voluntary)
  • Fundraising and major grant applications
  • Property – management, law
  • Policing strategy
