Another Lottery Grant
The William Pengelly Cave Studies Trust has recently been awarded a second lottery grant of nearly £7,000 to upgrade the courtyard area in front of the Museum. This will improve the surface for our visitors and include an interactive geological display.
Volunteers wanted
We need volunteers to guide people around this very important facility on Buckfastleigh Hill. Volunteers may claim travel expenses and various volunteer/member events are organised. The latest has been a visit to the Big Pit national mining museum in South Wales. Please contact

Heritage bid successful for William Pengelly Cave Studies Trust
logoThe Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded the William Pengelly Cave Studies Trust a grant of £33,600. The purpose of the grant is to develop an existing trail to facilitate better public access and understanding of Higher Kiln Quarry at Buckfasleigh. This is an important heritage site within Buckfasleigh Hill containing a cave system part of which has the remains of interglacial mammals from a period of the last Ice Age some 120,000 years ago. These remains include hyena, straight-tusked elephant and hippopotamus.
