Hunting the Ladies of the Raj Part 1 - Fairlynch Museum

During a meeting at the museum the other day I was interrupted by a request that I should help a visitor, a journalist on the Nottingham Post who needed some information. She’d been directed to Fairlynch as the only place which might provide it. 

The visitor apologised for disturbing me, especially as the museum was not officially open. But she was unable to call in the afternoon during opening time, and had come all the way from Nottingham to Budleigh Salterton in search of what she described as “the ladies of the Raj.” An Indian professor from Bristol University whom she’d recently met in Sidmouth had recommended Budleigh as the place to find them.
