He will also talk about creating a living from making boat fenders and bell-ropes, and everything in between.

Ed Crumpton will give a demonstration using the ropemaking machine in the museum and talk about his interest in rope as a medium and the processes behind creating his art. Ed’s ‘Mariners Way‘ knotted rope sculpture, commissioned by and sited at Exeter University, formed part of a two year project researching and responding creatively to this ancient walkway, which took mariners looking for work, from Bideford to Dartmouth and back. Edward has made many varied and interesting rope sculptures, always pushing the boundaries in his ropemaking and knotting skills. Not limited to rope, Ed will also talk about his painting and wood engraving.
