Holsworthy Museum is constantly looking for ways to raise money to pay its running costs. With insurance and day to day costs ever increasing it is getting harder each year to stay ahead.
We have decided to hold a Coffee morning on Wednesday,15th December 2010  in the Memorial Hall which is just across from us ( Manor Car park).

If you would like to help in any way with fund raising please contact Liz at the Museum

St Peters Fair July 2010
The week  starts with the Court Leet on Tuesday 6th July, followed by the Ale tasting Ceremony around the local public houses.

On Wednesday 7th July (Fair Day) the celebrations start at 8.00am with the reading of the Fair proclamation by the Town Crier on the site of Holsworthy's Great Tree.  We then move across the road to the Bread Weighing and after this, all the children present are given tickets for a free breakfast.

The main event of the day is the Pretty Maid Ceremony.  Crowds wait outside the church's Belfry Door to await the presentation at 12 noon.  Who will it be this year?

Liz celebrates 30 years as a Museum volunteer
Holsworthy's Christmas Late Night Shopping evening was extra special for me this year. My fellow volunteers surprised me with flowers, wine & chocolates. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all and say what a privilege it has been to work with them all. Without them there would be no Museum so thanks! Cheers everyone here's to the next 30 years!
Late night shopping in Holsworthy on Wednesday, 9th December 2009
We always look forward to welcoming many friends and visitors to the Museum on late night shopping evening.  This year we had a great time.

In the Square there was craft and charity stalls, the Lions with burgers and soup, plus other entertainments.  Holsworthy Town band  played carols getting us all into a festive mood.   Father Christmas also stopped off during the evening . The town was well supported which is so important in our present economic climate. Special thank you to Holsworthy Chamber of Trade for organising the event.
Family History Research
Since our Family history day we have had lots of enquiries.  Volunteers
at the Museum, and staff at the Library are  working hard to help with
them all.  familyhistory1

The Museum acts as a Service Point for Devon Record Office and manages the Local History Unit on behalf of Holsworthy Town Council so, if you have a question to ask about one of your ancestors, please get in touch and we will try to help.

Who knows they might be as famous as Sir Richard Todd the actor, well known for his role in the Dambusters, who lived with his father Dr Todd at the Elms, and attended the local  church school at North road, or Dr Stuart Craddock who worked with Fleming during the discovery of penicillin.

Cornish Parish Registers
Parish Registers of ten Cornish parishes adjacent to the Devon boundary (plus two that are now in Devon) have been received by Holsworthy Museum courtesy of the Devon and Cornwall Record Offices.

The microfiche are now available for inspection (by appointment only).

The Museum is very grateful to the Devon Record Office for obtaining these for us, and we know how much they will enhance our Service Point resources.

Parishes include Launcells, Stratton,Boyton, North Tamerton to name a few.
