Mary Anne Clarke was one of Exmouth's Famous Ladies, although in her case perhaps this should read Infamous.
A noted courtesan, she was embroiled in a scandal with Frederick, Duke of York, over the selling of Army commissions. She lived at Manchester House in Exmouth for a while.
Frederick was a rather indecisive Commander of the Army who in the words of the song "marched his men to the top of the hill and marched them down again".
The pupils of Year 2 at St Joseph's kindly recorded the song for us and you can hear it when you visit the Museum.
