The Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre at Lifton is proud to present the National Fairground Collection. It is a facility unique in the UK, designed to capture the magic of a bygone age through exhibits, vintage engineering and stunning artwork displays - offering a great day out for all the family.
Open from April to October (every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays) the Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre offers special themed events run throughout the season.
Highlights: Working and static fairground exhibits, industrial and road steam engines, vintage vehicles and assorted vintage machinery.
Getting there: The Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre is just one mile from the A30 in West Devon, 35 miles west of Exeter, and seven miles east of Launceston. Watch out for the brown signs on the A30 and minor roads. From Torbay and East Devon, go to Exeter and then down the A30. From Plymouth and South Devon, go to Tavistock TOWN CENTRE, not to Launceston. From the church take the Chillaton road and follow the brown signs for 12 miles. From Cornwall follow the A30 towards Exeter.
Parking: Free, with excellent access for coaches.
Food and drink: Mrs. Dingles Kitchen is open during normal opening hours. Enjoy a sandwich, fresh salad, delicious snacks or homemade cake in this lovely setting. A selection of hot and cold drinks are available, plus ice creams and confectionary. Picnic tables and a children’s play area are located adjacent to the main entrance, and include sections for wheelchair access.
Gift shop: Open during normal museum opening times for great gift ideas suitable for you, your family and your friends. The Gift Shop is situated adjacent to the reception and café and specialises in books on Fairground and Steam-related subjects.
Disabled access: There are no stairs within the museum complex; all areas can be accessed by ramps where appropriate. Seating is provided throughout for the use of visitors.
Toilets: Accessible toilets are available in the main building.
