A new exhibition of paintings and photography by Evelyn Dewar, inspired by the Fairlynch collections of costume and jewelry
A new display for 2008 tells the story of how designs for East Devon Lace were inspired by the local flora and fauna. The exhibition includes beautiful pieces from both Fairlynch and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter.
Devon Record Office has set up service points to assist people who find it difficult to make the journey to Exeter or Barnstaple to carry out research on their family, house etc.
On 23 April 2007 one of these service points was officially opened by Dr Todd Gray, local historian and author, at Fairlynch Museum, 27 Fore Street, Budleigh Salterton. EX9 6NP.
The museum holds microfiche copies of Parish registers (containing baptisms, marriages and burials), and non conformist registers. Soon we hope to add the Tithe Map Index, although this can be seen in hard copy.
The microfiche records at Fairlynch cover the parishes of Bicton, Budleigh Salterton, East Budleigh, Colaton Raleigh, Littleham (Exmouth), Lympstone, Otterton, Withycombe Raleigh, and Woodbury.
There is also a register for Budleigh Salterton Wesleyan Methodist circuit.
The Local History Room and Library at Fairlynch also contains archival material that may help with your research. The Library is open most Tuesday and Thursday afternoons during the season.
The museum is open from 2pm - 4.30pm daily until the end of September.
When the museum is closed appointments can be made to use the microfiche and visit the Library. Email mbrett@aultbe.co.uk
There is no charge for admission to the museum to use the microfiche.
Admission charges for the museum itself are £2.00 with concessions at £1.50. Students and children free.
