General History literature : Monographs - About Teignmouth, its people and past events

Teignmouth and Shaldon Museum have some very interesting, detailed information in the form of Monographs. These booklets are on sale in our entrance shop or can be ordered by post, although we do need to receive your remittance before we can send - nothing against you, but we have had some problems in the past. We only charge £2.50 per Monograph to send by post within the United Kingdom (the price in our shop being just £2.00). If you would like to order please make cheques payable to Teign Heritage
Here, basically, are the details about each Monograph.
 1.   Thomas Luny 1759-1837. Teignmouth's renowned marine artist.

 2.   The Railway in Teignmouth. One of the most picturesque railway lines in the Country.

 3.  The 16th Century Church Rocks Wreck - Teignmouth's most famous wreck of Time Team fame.
 4.   Admiral Sir Edward Pellew - First Viscount Exmouth 1757 - 1833. Lots more in the Museum about Pellew.
 5.   Teignmouth's Haldon Aerodrome - we also have a display of model aeroplanes of that era.
 6.   The Morgan-Giles Shipyard. This was known world-wide for its shipbuilding expertise.
 7.   A Potted History of Teignmouth. A very interesting and informative booklet researched and written by our Archivist. 
 8.   The Remarkable Journey of Donald Crowhurst. The disappearance of this sailor from Teignmouth Electron in 1968.
 9.   Elias Parish Alvars 1808-1849. King of Harpists.
 10.  Teignmouth - Trafalgar. Our brave seamen who fought at Trafalgar in  October 1805.
 11.  The Riviera Cinema Teignmouth - The story of the Riviera - 1826 to 1996. Designed on neo-classical lines to be the centre of the Den Crescent on Teignmouth's sea-front.
 12.  The Ancient Church of St Nicholas, Ringmore, Shaldon. A fascinating insight into life in Shaldon.
 13a. When the Maroons Go Up! A history of Teignmouth Lifeboats from 1851-1887.
 13b. When the Maroons Go Up! A history of Teignmouth Lifeboats from 1887-1940.
 14.   Brunel's Teignmouth. Commemorating the life and work of Britain's greatest engineer during the Industrial Revolution - Isambard Kingdom Brunel - who built some of the world's finest bridges, tunnels, ships and railways.

If you pre-arrange your visit our Archivist or Curator will be glad to answer any questions you may have with regard to our collections.
 
Of course we welcome arranged visits from schools, other student groups, foreign language students, uniformed organisations and adult groups. The length of any visit is discussed prior to the group's arrival, together with the suggested size of the group.
