New Opening for Coldharbour Mill at Easter 2008
The new 'walk-through' tour is the first part of the museum's renewed visitor programme. The next phase will be starting shortly which will see the development of an Interpretation Centre.
Here the historic backround to the wool industry in the South West will be explained, with Thomas fox's intervention and the bringing of machines to the processing of wool.
There will also be information about the Fox Brothers business in Coldharbour and nearby Wellington, Somerset and visitors will be briefed about the tour of the factory and the steam complex.
Coldharbour Mill is very fortunate in being able to demonstrate the development of power from the working water wheel to the steam engines covering the entire life of the mill from 1799 to its closure in 1981, as well as the wool processing which made it profitable for the Fox family for almost 200 years.
Lastly, the visitors will be able to learn what the museum trustees have achieved since they took over the mill in 1982 and what still needs to be done.
Why not visit Coldharbour Mill and immerse yourself in the history of the South West of England.
There is a modern comfortable restaurant for snacks or meals and a museum shop where the mill's knitting wool, tartan cloth and floor mats are on sale together with mill souvenirs and local textile products.
