The Archaeology collection charts the prehistory of the local area from the hominids of Kents Cavern to the invasion of the Romans and the first medieval settlements. A fascinating insight into how we have evolved.
Due to our Heritage Lottery Project, little of the collection is on display at this time. However there are plans to redisplay this material in early 2008.

The Beginner’s Guide to Ancient Egypt
An exhibition of ‘wonderful things’ for all ages, it includes a mummified boy from about 500 BC, a painted wooden coffin (see education) and a Shabti figure from the tomb of Seti I, as well as pottery, jewellery and textiles. The exhibition is particularly suited to use by school groups.

An exciting new display will shortly become available as part of the new Explorers Gallery, in the meantime the collection is unavailable.

Our apologies for any disappointment.
