General Cross-curricular workshop : Driving Heritage

Driving Heritage
is a new development for The DCC Heritage and Learning Resource and has been made possible with grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Museums, Libraries and Archives South West.
Chief Inspector J Skinner
Driving Heritage
provides a 'mobile museum' with a van and an Education Officer so that artefacts and workshops can be taken to schools across Devon and Cornwall. This mobile museum is an obvious benefit for more rural schools that do not have easy access to local museums and extra curricular learning resources.

Driving Heritage provides educational workshops, initially aimed at KS2. Two workshops have been developed for launch in Summer Term 2007 (post SATs).  These are Protest! and Respect and are designed to slot into the National Curricular guidelines for Citizenship and PSHE Education.

KS2 Citizenship workshop : Protest!

Driving Heritage
is launching a workshop on protests Summer Term 2007.
suffragettes
This workshop is designed to slot into the National Curriculum guidelines for Citizenship (KS2 1a,e. 2a-g. 4a,b. 5c,e,g.) and History (KS2 1a,c.)

The workshop will focus around protests in the past from the local area such as the Suffragette movements and Swampy's campaigns. The workshops will be supported by artefacts from The DCC Heritage and Learning Resource collections.

The workshop is designed to be exciting and interactive with a chance for student to enact their own protests on topics of their choice. It is a good opportunity for cross curricular learning with a focus on speaking and listening skills. Children will delight in learning about the illegal side of protests and the consequences when protests go wrong!

For a detailed outline of this workshop, please contact the Education Officer - Kirsty Woods at: Kirsty.Woods@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk

It is the aim of DCC Heritage and Learning Resource to aid in the reduction of youth offences by the education of children, those who are at risk of offending and as general input into an all round education. This workshop is designed to encourage children to consider the consequences of their actions, inspire children to confront their prejudices and formulate clearer opinions. It is not designed to influence and change children's opinions, but to provide interesting and challenging discussion
in order to encourage children to
explain reasons behind their viewpoints.
