This Year's Special Exhibition

The summer exhibition at the Whimple Heritage Centre is a collaboration between Whimple History Society and the Devon Beekeepers' Association, entitled 'Honeypots and Hives'.
It features an amazing selection of honeypots from the large collection owned by Mrs Barbara Salter. Barbara has collected these honeypots over many years and there are many styles displayed, each evoking a different era or fashion. Who would have thought that there could be so many variations on a theme? Barbara's late husband, Basil, was well known and highly respected in beekeeping circles, both locally and nationally.
On display in the exhibition are also examples of bee-keeping equipment and clothing. There are also lots of pictures of bees and beekeeping as well as plenty of information about the life of the bee and bee-related products.beekeeping2
As well as the special exhibition, you can see the Heritage Centre's permanent collections, this year on display in super new display cases funded by the National Lottery Fund.
Please come along and enjoy the displays - it is an ideal place to come with all the family or with visitors.
This year, there are also lots of new and interesting items for sale in the shop, which make ideal gifts. We also have different types of honey for sale - including the popular honeycomb blocks.
The Heritage Centre is open from 31st March until 29th September this year, on Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays 10.00 am - 3.30pm and Wednesdays 2.00 - 4.00pm. Entry is Free.
