At the cave museum we have an important collection of the remains of ice age mammals such as straight-tusked elephant and hippopotamus. Some of these bones may be handled by visitors and some may also be seen insitu in the bone cave. These species are representative of the
fauna that lived in the valley of the River Dart some
120,000 years ago during a warm stage prior to the
last Ice Age.
