Combe Martin Museum and Tourist Information Point

Combe Martin has a rich history combining unique social customs with silver mining, lime burning, strawberry growing as well as the maritime aspects. A fantastic Seaside Laboratory is open for all to use with the facility to explore the beach and go rock-pooling.

Beach safaris led by museum volunteers are held regularly when weather and tides permit Our unique Sail Loft offers an all year round indoor space for temporary exhibitions, meetings or as a base for school visits.A new exciting programme of activities for all ages is updated regularly. The museum also has an ancestry research point combined with a Copy Shop where we have A3/A4 copying/ laminating facilities internet accesss.

  • Silver and lead mining

    Silver and lead mining made a major contribution to employment and wealth in Combe Martin over the centuries. We have a display of ore and items made from locally mined metals and an interactive 3D map showing the location of the workings.

    Welcome to our reconstruction of a Combe Martin Cottage with a display of authentic everyday items from the past. This exhibition is supported by audio

    Pictures, uniforms and a desk take visitors back to school early in the 20th century!

    A range of tools and equipment from craftsmen, farmers, miners and many other people who have made their living in Combe Martin

  • Sail Loft Displays

    The Sail Loft has a collection of pictures models and information displays which reflect the importance of the matitime trade in the history of the village.

The museum is easily accessible from Kiln Car Park on Cross St. Displays are well spaced in bright well lit areas, disability lift and wheelchair accessible toilet.
The museum is Makaton friendly and all displays are accessible to visually impaired.

The Museum is fully accessible, we have a lift and toilets that are available for those with a disability.
We are a Makaton friendly museum and all displays are accessible to those with visual impairment through the use of the Talking Pen.
We hold regular coffee mornings every two weeks on a Tuesday when entry is free.
During the school holidays we run craft workshops for children from 2-12 years.
Seashore Safaris during the spring/autumn.
If you wish to carry out Family History research and are travelling from away we can open by appointment.
