April 18th John Davidson ‘Floods along the Exe - past, present and future’.
This talk will look at the long history of floods in the River Exe Catchment, and the catastrophic floods in 1960. The building of the Exeter Flood relief scheme, and the more recent flood alleviation works will be covered. The talk will finish by examining future flood risks along the Exe and the estuary, particularly in the context of climate change and rising sea levels.
John Davidson taught geography, geology and world development at Exeter School until 2018. He writes articles and gives talks on landscapes, natural hazards and historical subjects. John is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and a member of the Geographical Association and Devon Wildlife Trust.
John became an Exeter City Redcoat guide in 2022.
Doors open at 11.45 £3 per lecture or £15 for the series of six. Pay at the door.
