  • Joint Mitnor Bone Deposit

    Fossil bone remains from interglacial 120,000 - 100,000 years ago.

  • Public Guided Walk

    Members of the public are been taken up to the entrance of JointMitnor Cave. Here they will see the 120,000 year old bone deposit which contains the remains of large animals, including elephants, hippos and rhinos, which roamed the land when the weather was much warmer than today.

  • Lime Kilns

    These kilns were fired for the last time early in the 20th century. One has been restored enabling visitors to see the structure.

  • Notice Board

    This board, painted by Lois Taylor and commissioned by the Town Council, was used during the 'Wool and Leather Festival' to show visitors important sites around the town.

  • Greater Horseshoe Bat

    Cave leaders from the Pengelly Trust took members of the Devon Wildlife Trust and the Devon Bat Group on the 2012 February hibernation survey through the caves in Higher Kiln Quarry when more than 800 bats were seen.

Admission & prices

The museum is open to the general public as a part of our Guided Walks on Wednesdays and Thursdays in August at 11am and 2pm. The walk includes a visit to the bone cave. Find us

Exit off A38 at Dart Bridge Junction. Follow directions for Buckfastleigh. About 200m after mini-roundabout, opposite band bend warning sign is Russets Lane. We are at the top.
