RAMM cares for many works by wel-known and well-loved Devon artists William and FJ Widgery.
William Widgery (1826-1893) was entirely self-taught and developed an atmospheric style well suited to large-scale work. By contrast his son, FJ (1861-1942) recieved formal art training at home and abroad. His more precise draughtstmanship was ideal for smaller-scale and illustration.
This display includes two sketchbooks, a printing plate, four paintings and some of William's tools and equipment. Both men draw life-long inspiration from the landscape of Devon, and above all, from Dartmoor.
