Writing the Seaside Competition

How to enter

Using the North Devon Coastline to capture your imagination, write a short story or poem as part of our Science at the Seaside project.

Try to use some of our key words.....

Rockpools, Anemones, Victorian Naturalists, Microcope, Curiosity, Marine Biology, Foraging, Sea Monster, Magnifying Glass, Fossils, Collecting, Marine Life, Neptune/Poseidon, Rambles, Shells, Oyster Catcher, Tides, Fishes.

Competition Rules

Three age groups

  • Children up to 11 years old
  • 12 - 18 year olds
  • Adults

Format

Stories must be typed (or may be handwritten in the 18 under categories) on A4 paper, spacing 1.5 and typeface 12pt.

No Manuscript will be returned, so please ensure you keep a copy of your work.

Each person may submit only one story.

Please attach a cover sheet with your name, age category which you are entering, address, telephone and e-mail contact details.

NB: Copyright remains with the author but entry to the competition implies agreement for work to be published on Ilfracombe Museum websites and publications.

Entries to be sent to Ilfracombe Museum, Wilder Road, Ilfracombe       EX34 8AF.

Entries will be published after closing date of 9th August 2014.

Winners to be announcedat the Curious Ilfracombe in 20 Objects event on Saturday 6th September 2014.

Entry to the competition implies acceptance of the above rules. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Prizes include book tokens, microscopes and theatre tickets.

Free entry to the museum to all competition participants and accompanying adults.
