Barber Surgeon - Allhallows Museum
22 October 2011 22 October 2011When: 22 October 2011
Where: Allhallows Museum, Honiton
The Barber Surgeon returns to Allhallows Museum on Saturday 22nd October 11am to 2pm. He will show how a Barber Surgeon would have worked in the 16th and 17th centuries and explain how trephining (drilling a hole in the skull) was used to release evil spirits and help to cure a nasty headache. The instruments used for the most dangerous operation performed at that time will be displayed and there will be a demonstration of bloodletting - a chance to meet some blood-sucking leeches! Suitable for all ages and audience participation encouraged.
