The SDRT Museum’s May meeting breaks new ground for the second time this season. The subject is “Bus Preservation and the Loddiswell Museum”, the speaker is David Sheppard, and the venue is Staverton station, on the South Devon Railway. A free heritage bus service will carry people from Buckfastleigh station to Staverton station, and will return after the meeting.

David Sheppard is well known as an enthusiast for all types of heritage transport, and has been involved with bus preservation for many years. His skills include all aspects of rebuilding and running heritage vehicles, and he can often be found at the wheel of one of his buses. His illustrated talk will include material about the private bus museum at Loddiswell, and the Thames Valley & Great Western Omnibus Trust. One of their best-known activities locally is the hugely-popular annual Kingsbridge bus running day, when a variety of vehicles recreates many of the routes based on the town and its hinterland.

Part of the evening’s entertainment will be a ride in David’s ex-Western National bus KTA 270 between Buckfastleigh and Staverton stations. The bus will leave Buckfastleigh at 7.30pm, returning after the meeting, by about 9.45pm. Seating is limited to 33 people, and so will have to be on a “first come, first served” basis if the demand is heavy. The meeting itself will start at Staverton station at 7.45pm, and refreshments will be available. Entry is free. We look forward to seeing you there!
