Where: RAMM, Exeter
Time: 10.30am - 1pm
Cost: £20
Suitable for: Specific age ranges
Make a truly unique Christmas card for that special someone, or keep it to cherish for yourself.
In this workshop we will explore cyanotypes – a Victorian process originated in the 1840s by John Hershel which produces a characteristically blue print. Anna Atkins was inspired by him and used this process to produce images of plants, ferns, and seaweed.
Dartmoor-based artists Nicky Thompson will guide you through the process of mixing the cyanotype and coating the paper. You will place plants onto the specially coated paper and expose them to light to create a blue and white photographic image.
All materials are provided but you can bring along your personal objects to print – items such as lace and pressed plant materials work well.
Nicky Thompson is an artist living and working on Dartmoor, a rich source of inspiration and an important part of her work. She has an MA in photography and focusses mainly on experimental photography techniques, cyanotype, anthotype, photograms and Ambrotypes/ Tintypes. Recently she has been mainly working with Wet Plate Collodion (Ambrotypes).
