Fairlynch Museum Budleigh Salterton
Fairlynch Museum and Arts Centre is one of the very few thatched museums in the UK. The Grade II Listed building dating from 1811 is a typical example of a 'marine cottage orné'.
A pebble’s throw from the best beach in Devon, we’re a volunteer-run museum for life-long learners of all ages and everyone who loves our corner of the world. We have nationally important costume and geological collections and excellent resources for local and family history researchers. Please support us by donating, visiting or shopping with us! Admission & prices
The Museum is open again from 15 April 2022 (Good Friday)
Further good news is that a successful recruiting campaign for stewards has made possible a morning shift from 11.30am to 2.00pm, thereby doubling the past opening hours of the Museum - which will be open Tuesday to Sunday, 11.30 to 4.30.
Exhibitions this year include Lower Otter Restoration Project - An exhibition to reflect the 2021-23 £12M project to restore the natural floodplain of the River Otter.
Cecil Elgee - A recently acquired watercolour by Cecil Elgee (1903-1984) will be exhibited with other paintings and animal wood carvings by this talented local artist.
Jubilee - An exhibition to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will show how coronations and jubilees were celebrated locally in the past. An exhibition of costumes will reflect the fashions of 1953 coronation year.
