This is a rare chance to see the special wooden model of the Countess Wear Paper Mill. Discover how the paper mill once turned London rags into banknotes for the Empire. The mill produced paper for newsprint and bank notes from around 1650 until 1885. It’s an important local landmark and part of a rapidly changing riverscape. Rodney Coffin spent ten years searching for this model of the mill which was believed to have been made by an apprentice in the 1870s but had long since disappeared. A central part of a successful exhibition at the Museum in 2019 the model was carefully packed away-so this is a rare opportunity to see it for a very limited time.
