SDR Military Weekend - South Devon Railway
07 July 2012 08 July 2012When: 07 July 2012 to 08 July 2012
Where: South Devon Railway
On Saturday and Sunday 07/08 July the South Devon Railway again stages one of its popular Military Weekends, when clock is turned back to the 1940s. Staged in conjunction with the Devon Area of the Military Vehicle Trust it will recreate scenes of wartime Britain, with a wide range of contemporary vehicles, uniformed and civilian personnel and – for the unwary – a number of wholly unexpected events, doubtless including some unexploded bombs.
Buildings will have to have their windows protected against blast damage, and woe betide anyone who shows a light after dark. Refreshments will, of course, be available from the NAAFI, with a wide range of Spam-based delicacies available.
It is not necessary to book in advance – just turn up on the day at any SDR station: Totnes, Staverton or Buckfastleigh. Normal train fares will apply, although there will be many extra trains and special wartime workings. Please be sure to bring your identity card with you.
