Explore RAMM’s collection of footwear in this half day course.

Shoes that have been worn often retain a very distinctive imprint of the wearer. From straights and flats to stiletto heels, we will take a look at how boots and shoes were made, sold and advertised in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, discover some intriguing stories about shoes and their owners, and have a chance to examine footwear from the collections up close. Find out how to identify materials and date fashionable shoes in this afternoon workshop.

Course Tutor: Shelley Tobin

Textiles and dress specialist, author and dress historian, Shelley has over 25years experience documenting, researching and taking costume to new audiences. She is the curator for RAMM’s extensive costume and textile collection and the National Trust costume curator at Killerton.
