One of England’s best known narrow gauge railways, the Lynton & Barnstaple was a latecomer to the railway map, and an early departure from it as well. Although it survived the 1923 Grouping, becoming part of the Southern, it closed in 1935, and was greatly missed. Now, in one of the most exciting ventures of railway heritage, the line has been rebuilt between Woody Bay and Killington Lane, Parracombe, and is set for major expansion in the next few years.
Dave Tooke, an experienced volunteer at Woody Bay, will give us an illustrated talk about the line past and present.
This is our first meeting in our new venue, which is the Meeting Room in SDR Engineering’s new extension to their workshops. The room is at an early stage of development, but light refreshments will be available, together with the usual prize draw. To get there, either park on the station forecourt and walk round, or park in the overflow car park behind the engineering bloc. As usual, entry is free and everyone is welcome.
