We Ha Neck! (a harvest supper): New work by Simon Bayliss
The Burton at Bideford Art Gallery and Museum
When: 15 October 2021 to 24 December 2021
Where: Ceramics Gallery
Suitable for: Any age
The exhibition presents a new body of ceramics by St Ives-based artist Simon Bayliss. Ib this pieces, he explires the idea of an intimate harvest supper, wither ceramic stools, plates and jugs staged around a pink triangular table.
The pint table makes reference to a work by Judy Chicago - an important icon of 1970s feminist art. The pink equilateral triangle also acknowledges the symbol used by the Nazis to denote homonsexual men in concentration camps, and it has since been reclained by LGBTQ+ communities as a positive symbol of identity.
At the core of the installation is Bayliss' take on the traditional harvest jug - a type of jug typical of the North Devon slipware pottery tradition.
