BARNACLE, the Museum's mascot, has now been restored by the Museum staff and has resumed his pride of place.
The figurehead was modelled on that for HMS Ajax and was carved by two local men in the 1930's. He never went to sea but was erected at Holman's Boatyard where he stayed for 70 years before finding his way to the Museum.
Why Barnacle? Children visiting the Exmouth stand at the Devon County Show took part in a competition to find a name for him and this was the winning entry.
