Spirits of the Past-Halloween Event
The spirits of some twenty personalities from Newton Abbot’s past came back to haunt the town for Halloween, in a new spooky event organised by the Museum.
Two groups of intrepid explorers on a ‘Spirits of the Past’ trail in the centre of the town, encountered the ghosts of a variety of former residents and visitors, including a runaway performing bear, a monk, Lord Nelson, and Suffragette leader Mrs Pankhurst leading a riot outside the Constitutional Club. The ‘spirits’ were played by a cast of volunteers, and the event was funded by the 'Museums at Night' scheme.
Despite the heavy rain, about forty people of all ages, including babies in buggies, joined the walks, and the event was enthusiastically received by all.
After the trail, they were entertained to dragon’s blood and hot chocolate in the clock tower, and there was a prize for the best-dressed member of the public.
