Heart of Oak - Animation Art Workshop

with Stuart Dawson.

On Saturday 18th February the Town Hall was full of mixed ages from 7 to 80 for the Animation workshop. The animation equipment was set up and the group had to use their imagination using the designs within the carved screens for inspiration.  The theme was symbols-draw the symbol that represents you to others.  There was a wren, trains, apples, butterflies, once the shape was cut out the centre of attention became the light box.  Hands floated over the symbols out lining the shapes with ever increasing whirls and swirls.

Instructions to 'clear the hands' came from stuart ever so often and a photograph was taken-over the following hour the lines grew and some were coloured.  When played back the time lapse photography ran them together into a mad pattern of growing lines and magically infilling colours.

The other light box was covered in gauzey papery tissue to represent the passing of time on the screen with the build up of dust over the centuries, now being removed by Liz Cheadle the conservator .

Comments:-

"I am going to do this again!"

" I've done animation before-but not on this sort of equipment. Its just as easy but needs patience"
