Join us for Music Together, a series of supportive and nurturing music workshops for home educated children aged 5 to 11. During the session we will use a range of authentic instruments from around the world to grow our musical world from the inside out, sharpening a range of life skills along the way.

There will be 4 workshops in a series, each one focusing on a different classification of instruments:

28 April:  Idiophones – musical instruments that produce sound through the vibration of the instrument itself, without strings/air flow/membranes e.g. woodblocks, bells, gongs or triangles

23 June: Membranophones – musical instruments that produce sound from vibrating membranes e.g. drums

23 Sept: Aerophones – musical instruments that produce sound by air flow e.g. flutes, oboes, didgeridoos

18 Nov:  Chordophones – musical instruments that produce sound from the vibration of strings e.g. guitars, bows or harps.

Book a one-off workshop or the whole series to learn and experience the full collection of instruments, understanding how they produce sound and the different ways we can use them.

The workshop will be led by Mike Marks of the Sounds of Learning (link: Home | The Sounds of Learning). Mike is an enthusiastic music teacher with a background in primary education and offers a range of musical experiences for all ages and abilities.

Music is embedded in every aspect of life. Maths, English, Science, History, Psychology, Art, PE, Geography; they all connect to music in their own unique ways. From our inner world to the workings of the universe and everywhere in between, our connection, confidence and deepening understanding of music will influence how we experience the world.
