Exmouth Library has given us a large coloured photograh showing the expanse of Exmouth. It is an aerial photograph and would have been taken from a little offshore.
The Library did not have a date but we identified a Lifeboat in the foreground as being the Caroline Finch which was on station here in the early 1990's.
We imagine this item will arouse a lot of interest from our Visitors - it has already done so with regard to our Volunteers.
We are exhibiting it alongside mementos of two iconic Exmouth buildings - a sketch of the Imperial Hotel made before the fire in January 1973 when the Hotel was badly damaged and 5 people lost their lives and also a 1928 Proposal for the building of the Pavilion.
A competition for designs attracted 82 entries. The plan we show was considered too expensive, as were most of the others, and it was not until 1932 that a revised plan was approved and the building opened in July 1933.
