We were recently visited by a Czech gentleman who was enquiring about Czech and Polish airmen operating out of Exeter in WWII.
He had heard that the flyers had used a particular pub at Clyst St George and had signed their names on the pub's ceiling.
The story is true but, alas, the ceiling was taken down years ago when the pub was refurbished. Fortunately the names were preserved by the Royal Air Force Association at Exmouth and photographs of the ceiling can be viewed at
