Added: 12 July 2018
Calling all Lego enthusiasts. To celebrate its summer blockbuster exhibition of LEGO models, Brick Built, Torquay Museum is launching a Lego building competition aimed at children under the age of 12.
The object of the competition is simple. Build a Lego model (not a kit that can be bought), using plenty of imagination, no bigger than a 30cm cube. The model should relate in some way to Torquay Museum’s collections, in one of the following three categories:
-
Ancient Egypt – could be a model of a pyramid, coffin/sarcophagus, temple, palace, statute, etc
-
Prehistory – eg a model of an ancient monument such as Stonehenge, a burial chamber, a cave scene, a woolly mammoth, sabre-toothed tiger, dinosaur, etc.
-
Romans - eg a model of a Roman fort, temple, villa, bath house, etc
Competition entrants can work in teams – of friends, school classes, Scout or Brownie groups, Lego clubs, etc. Entries for the competition will need to be handed into Torquay Museum by Friday 27th July at the latest, and will be judged by an independent panel, including an architect from local architecture practice Kay Elliott, who have sponsored Torquay Museum’s Brick Built exhibition of Lego models.
The winners of the competition will have their model displayed in Torquay Museum for the remainder of the Brick Built Lego models exhibition, which runs until 8th September, and will win free entry to the Museum for a year. Two runners up will have their model displayed at Paignton library and will also win free entry to the Museum for a year.
If entrants have any questions, please call Torquay Museum on 01803 293975 and ask to speak to Carl Smith.
