June 7th 2015 marked the 100th Anniversary of Flight Sub-Lieutenant Rex Warneford becoming the first Allied pilot to succesfully destroy a Zeppelin in mid-air, an action for which he was awarded a V.C.

Unfortunately Rex was killed shortly afterwards in a flying accident in France.

We were pleased to be guests at the service in The Strand for the laying of a VC Memorial Stone to his honour.  Relatives of Rex and representatives of the Services, the Royal British Legion, East Devon Council and Exmouth Town Council were all present.

Exmouth Museum has a small exhibition detailing Rex's brave action and that of some of Exmouth's other heroes in both World Wars.
