Discover some of the hidden secrets behind RAMM’s osteology (bone) collections.

This masterclass focuses on the ‘people’ currently on display within the RAMM collections and will explore the secrets that they hold. We will consider the types of material derived from the human body that are often included in various museum displays, as well as the ethics, relevance, and value of human remains held in collections worldwide. There will be an opportunity to participate in a workshop on the identification and analysis of human remains in the second half of the masterclass.

Course tutor: Belinda Tibbetts

Belinda has a PhD in palaeopathology (the study of past disease in human remains) and has carried out detailed research into human skeletal remains recovered from archaeological locations across the UK, Europe, and Turkey. Prior to undertaking her doctoral research, Belinda completed a MSc in Bioarchaeology (Human Osteology) at the University of Exeter on the infant skeletal remains from the Iron Age site of Gussage All Saints, Dorset, investigating the links between social disruption, maternal health, and infant mortality.
