Originally planned for our 2020 lecture series, Lisa Smithstead will showcase some of the treasures unearthed through the ‘Reframing Vivien Leigh’ project.   This University of Exeter project explored the life and legacy of stage and screen star Vivien Leigh and the lecture will offer a particular focus on her connection to the South West.

Dr Lisa Smithstead is a Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Exeter and is author and editor of several books on women’s cinematic and literary histories. She was the Principal Investigator on the Arts Council funded project Reframing Vivien Leigh,: Stardom, Archives and Access (2019-2020), working with Topsham Museum as a key project partner.  She has lectured and researched in Devon for many years and has a special interest in Exeter cinemagoing histories.
