Whimple Heritage Centre

Whimple Heritage Centre

In the heart of Devon cider country, the Whimple Heritage Centre celebrates the cider making heritage of East Devon and the history of a Devon cider village. The village of Whimple was dominated by the Whiteway’s Cyder Company factory for nearly one hundred years.

Following the closure of the factory in 1989, a group of enthusiastic volunteers decided to formally record the history of a village undergoing fundamental change, and established the Whimple Heritage Centre in 2003 as a small museum displaying artefacts relating to the history of the village backed up by an extensive archive of documents and photographs.

  • Model of Cyder Barn

This superb model was designed and built by Brian Nickolls who with his wife Jenny owned the Whimple Dolls House Museum. The museum was situated in The Square at what is now The Jays and was open for five years until 1999. The model is made in 1/12 scale and took 6 weeks to research and build. The cider press, apple mill and barrel rack were also hand made by Brian. Whimple Heritage Centre is very grateful to Jenny Nickolls for her permission to exhibit this model.
