Added: 12 January 2023
The next Lecture at Matthews Hall in our winter series is on Thursday January 12th, entitled “Devon Artists at The Elizabethan Court- Nicolas Hilliard and Nicholas Stone”.
Exeter artist Nichols Hilliard, and Woodbury Sculptor Nicholas Stone, both made their reputations at the Tudor court working for the monarch. Their careers offer a fascinating glimpse into the art world of that period.
Dr Sam Smiles is Emeritus Professor of Art History, University of Plymouth, and Programme Director, Art History and Visual Culture, University of Exeter. He specialises in the history of British art and has a particular interest in the contribution of Devon and Cornwall to the national picture.
Doors open at 1845 and the lecture begins at 1930.
Entrance £5, payment at the door, no need to book. A bar will also be available.
